Punch Today in the Face!

This title may sound silly, but how often do we was up feeling like the day ahead is just a burden? There are dishes in the sink, clothes to fold, floors to sweep and mop, babies to feed and bathe… Somedays you just don’t want to accomplish all of those things. Some days we just want to give in and stay in bed. And I am the first to say that once in a while, that is okay. However, in order for me to feel good about myself, those days can’t happen very often. So when I wake up feeling this way, I have a system that pulls me out of the funk.

  1. Make the bed.

This seems so silly but it just sets the tone for what the rest of the morning. A made bed says, “Hey, I care about today and I am not going to let it pass me by!” It also prevents you from wanting to crawl back into bed, as tempting as that may be.

  1. 10- Minute Tidy

Turn on some music and tidy up the house. This is a basic clean up job, not a scrubbing job. So this includes unloading the dishwasher, putting shoes where they belong, getting the few dishes in the sink into the washer, changing the laundry, picking up toys… Make the place a little more organized so the day doesn’t seem so daunting.

  1. Get those gym clothes on and turn on YouTube.

If I don’t get my workout done before noon, heaven knows it won’t happen that day. So get your workout gear on and get moving! I usually resort to YouTube because I try to get my workout done during morning naptime. For you, this may be the gym, a run, a walk, or Tae Bo… what ever it is, get moving and get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes.

  1. Shower and get ready.

Showering is obvious. Getting ready, not always so obvious. There are days when all you can fit in is a shower. We have all been there. But for me, I feel infinitely more put together when I have some mascara on and my hair is somewhat done- which is usually a styled messy bun…mom bun… The point is, my hair is up and looking better than a mop. And this makes me feel good.

  1. Do one chore.

Okay so this sounds weird but for me, if I just go for it and clean my whole bathroom, I am much more inclined to finish cleaning up around the house. It’s the law of motion! Once I start, I typically can’t stop. So if I just get going, I am a powerhouse.

This leaves the rest of my day open to get dinner fixed, or go run errands, or even just to walk around Target like all moms do at least once a week. (Don’t lie…we all do it.) Trust me, you will feel way less guilty and enjoy that afternoon mini binge on Netflix if these things get done. How simple is that?
